What skills did you develop through the SLG programme?<\/strong><\/p>

I developed an interdisciplinary foundation through the HKU Sustainability Leadership & Governance (SLG) Programme, gaining the ability to understand and address complex sustainability challenges using practical management tools and cross\u2011sector collaboration approaches. The curriculum equipped me with skills in systems thinking, sustainability governance, policy analysis, ESG integration, and responsible leadership, enabling me to translate global sustainability frameworks into actionable strategies. These capabilities\u2014strengthened through applied learning and engagement with real\u2011world cases\u2014now help me drive informed, ethical, and solutions\u2011oriented sustainability decisions in my professional work.<\/p>

What are one or two key aspects of the SLG programme that have impacted your career?<\/strong><\/p>

One of the most impactful aspects of the SLG Programme is its emphasis on cross\u2011sector, interdisciplinary learning, which equips me to understand and navigate complex sustainability challenges through multiple lenses (public, business, and social sectors). The programme trains me to integrate sustainability principles into real\u2011world decision\u2011making and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.<\/p>

This approach directly strengthens my ability to design and deliver corporate sustainability initiatives which helps me to evaluate impacts holistically and work collaboratively with teams across operations, procurement, marketing, and other regions. It sharpens both my strategic mindset and\u00a0 practical problem\u2011solving approach in a large, cross\u2011functional organisation like Cathay.<\/p>

In what ways is sustainability leadership and governance relevant to your industry\/career path?<\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0Sustainability leadership and governance at Cathay go beyond compliance\u2014they set the tone for how the airline integrates environmental and social responsibility into every decision. At the leadership level, climate strategy, risk management, and stakeholder engagement are overseen ensuring that sustainability is not a side project but a core business priority. Governance structures provide accountability through ESG disclosures, codes of conduct, and sustainable procurement policies, which safeguard the company\u2019s reputation and resilience in a highly regulated industry.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

For my career in Cathay\u2019s sustainability team, this means I am involved in shaping different sustainability initiatives . I can gain exposure to board\u2011level governance processes, cross\u2011functional collaboration, and circular economy\u2014skills that position me as both a subject\u2011matter expert and a strategic advisor. In practice, this equips you to influence corporate strategy, engage with external stakeholders, and build a career that blends technical sustainability expertise with leadership and governance experience, making me valuable not only within Cathay but across the global aviation and ESG landscape.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

What do you envision for the future of sustainability leadership in your industry?<\/strong><\/p>

The future of sustainability leadership in aviation will centre on decarbonisation through scalable SAF<\/strong>, circular\u2011economy innovation<\/strong>, and credible, customer\u2011facing sustainability value<\/strong>. Airlines will need to lead not just through compliance, but by shaping policy, accelerating industry\u2011wide collaboration, and embedding sustainability deeply into product and service design. We will balance climate action, customer expectations, and strong ESG governance to become truly sustainability\u2011driven industry.<\/p>
