Over the years, we have had a number of entrepreneurs complete the Master of Sustainability Leadership and Governance Programme (SLGP). Last week, Dr. Vivian Chu<\/a>, SLGP Co-Director, invited Jennifer Mok, Founder of PureBamboo<\/a> (SLGP Alumni 2021) to join her for an interview on\u00a0RTHK\u2019s Climate Watcher. Jennifer\u2019s sharing offers a glimpse of the ways in which the programme supports entrepreneurs in developing their businesses and the challenges that are faced by sustainability enterprises.<\/p>

The hosts of Climate Watcher, Karen and Tony, were fascinated by the benefits that are brought to the environment and human health by using unbleached tissues made from bamboo.\u00a0 Jennifer explained that the environmental benefits were not only limited to the production process but also in its end-of-life stage, because bleached paper products release harmful chemicals into the environment during its degradation process. In creating and promoting their sustainable products, her company is offering a choice for consumers and a chance to reconsider their role in protecting the environment.<\/p>

Jennifer explained that SLGP\u2019s content on sustainable supply chain taught her how to audit her suppliers, applying various standards on environmental impact, health and safety, production quality assurance amongst many aspects that she needed to manage. The programme also helped her gain a better understanding of reporting standards and calculating carbon emissions, which enabled her to realise B-to-B opportunities. \u00a0She developed a Green Procurement service providing corporates with a calculation of the carbon emissions associated with their purchase from PureBamboo while also helping them to purchase carbon offset credits, thereby contributing to their net zero targets. She found the SLGP very practical because the skills and knowledge gained enabled her to conceptualise and execute this business strategy.<\/p>
