This course will help you to establish the skills and characteristics of leaders and leadership. Through the use of case studies and self-evaluation tools students will be become familiar with the elements of leaders and leadership that support human capital development. The understanding of being a leader and what is leadership has changed considerably in the last few years and particularly so with the growing expectations of organizational social responsibility, environmental stewardship and accountability mechanisms for good governance. The course will explore the characteristics of a leader, the elements of leadership and how this contributes to working cultures that support sustainability. Examples and case studies will be used to illustrate how leaders work, make-decisions and can drive responsible organizations, as well as critiques of leadership styles that are not conducive to sustainability and positive systemic change.
