Governance and policy for sustainability transition

Introduction

The course examines the relevance of different governance approaches and public policy for sustainability transition. The application of these governance approaches and various policy instruments to address sustainability issues will be investigated through a range of case studies. 

The course critically reviews the roles played by the public sector, private sector and civil society as well as their opportunities and constraints in advancing change for sustainability. Attention will be paid to the importance of leveraging cross-sector collaboration for just and low carbon transition. With the aim of training students to become drivers of sustainability initiatives and policy, the course introduces tools such as policy effectiveness assessment and programme impact assessment.
