Mui Tsz Lam Farming Programme
In the past, villagers cultivated crops in the mountains and depended on the land for survival. Today, experienced horticultural instructors once again lead participants in cultivating abandoned terraces, planting vegetables and edible wild plants while learning practical farming techniques.
The course lasts 4 months and includes 6 sessions covering land preparation, weeding and fertilizing, sowing and transplanting seedlings, constructing supports, and daily farm management. Towards the end of the programme, participants have the opportunity to harvest crops and enjoy the rewards of their labour.
The final session also includes a visit to Kop Tong Village to enjoy locally prepared farmhouse cuisine in a true “Farm to Table” experience.
Additionally, the programme incorporates local art experiences using plants and materials gathered from the village environment. Mui Tsz Lam volunteers share practices such as sketching and Chinese painting, stone painting, crafting musical instruments from plants, and traditional preserved vegetable making, helping participants better understand the village’s plant ecology through both active and reflective activities.
