Admissions briefing session for the Sustainability Leadership and Governance Programme (SLGP) on February 28, 2025
On February 28, 2025, we hosted an admission briefing session for the Sustainability Leadership and Governance Programme (SLGP) with our programme director, Dr. Margaret Burnett, alongside an insightful discussion with our alumni. It was a pleasure talking to Ms. Qian Li, former Senior Director of Corporate Communications at Budweiser Brewing Company APAC; Ms. Tiffany Lee, Assistant Director of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability at Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels; and Mr. Stephen Tam, Director of Quality Assurance at Opharmic Technology Hong Kong.
During the session, our alumni shared valuable insights about the skills they acquired during their time in the programme and how they have applied these skills in their current workplaces. Ms. Qian Li emphasized that many sustainable principles are, in fact, fundamental business values, and the programme equipped her with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively communicate this to management. She also highlighted the cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary nature of the programme, which introduces students to various sectors and attracts individuals from diverse backgrounds.
A key point of discussion, highlighted by Ms. Tiffany Lee, was the importance of effective communication in translating sustainability concepts to the corporate world. While the SLG Programme provides valuable insights into technical skills and international frameworks, it also offers corporate governance knowledge, equipping students to convey sustainability concepts effectively in their workplaces.
As we look to the future of sustainability, our alumni noted that sustainability principles and business principles are increasingly intertwined. There is a clear path forward: toward sustainability. As emphasized by Mr. Stephen Tam, it is important to view sustainability as a holistic concept that encompasses people, planet, and prosperity. The sustainability journey is just beginning, and while the industry is evolving rapidly, it is essential to persevere and integrate sustainability principles into business practices.
