Together with SLG Programme 2025 graduate and CCSG Scholarship recipient Ms. Hilary Tse (Air Network Planning and Engineering Manager, Customer Engineering and Long Range at FedEx), SLG Programme Co‑Director Dr. Vivian Chu shared powerful insights on why logistics is at the heart of sustainability – and how the industry is rapidly transforming to meet new challenges.

Last Saturday, RTHK’s Climate Watcher invited Dr. Winnie Law, Programme Co-Director and Principal Lecturer of Sustainability Leadership and Governance (SLG) Programme of the Centre, together with Nancy Yau, Senior Manager of Sustainability and Corporate Communications at a major Hong Kong fast food chain and a 2025 SLG alumnus, to discuss the challenges fast food industry faces in implementing sustainability across the supply chain, as well as ways to promote environmental protection and social responsibility.

Green Industry Policies (GIPs) are vital tools for supporting decarbonization efforts worldwide. This seminar explores how institutional design influences the effectiveness of GIPs, focusing on ammonia co-combustion in Japan—a promising strategy to reduce emissions from coal-fired power generation, and examine the role of government within inter-organizational networks that facilitate low-carbon technology development and deployment.

This taster lecture examines sustainability challenges—systemic interdependencies, policy inertia, and governance gaps—alongside climate attitudes and policy preferences in relation to the role of fossil fuel investments in carbon removal technologies. It analyses how different climate narratives influence public support for transition policies, revealing tensions between technological optimism and climate urgency in regulatory frameworks amid sustainability transition.

In an immersive start to the second semester, our SLGP students took the initiative and participated in a field trip to Pak Nai in partnership with The Nature Conservancy. The visit provided a unique opportunity to integrate classroom learning with hands-on conservation work and stakeholder engagement.

At the annual ReThink HK 2025 conference, a team of five HKU students from the SLGP Programme Seunghyun Hong, Kyoko Dobashi, Clarence Watt, Wang On Y., and Kenna Chan partnered with the youth-led organization 2041 Hong Kong to launch a Circular Economy Social Experiment. The initiative engaged conference attendees to gauge public perception and assess the feasibility of implementing circular economy principles within Hong Kong.

Led by Dr Winnie Law, a group of students from the SLGP Programme enjoyed an exclusive guided tour at the Eco Expo Asia 2025 last Friday and visited various exhibitor booths to understand how their sustainability-focused learnings from class can be executed into real-world applications.

Many may think that they work primarily on ESG reporting—which is in fact only a very small part of what our graduates do! We are pleased to have Season Ho, Udara Senevirathne, and Ruoqi Zhu 朱若绮 Zhu sharing with us how they embed sustainability knowledge and skill sets into their everyday work.
