Led by Dr Winnie Law, a group of students from the SLGP Programme enjoyed an exclusive guided tour at the Eco Expo Asia 2025 last Friday and visited various exhibitor booths to understand how their sustainability-focused learnings from class can be executed into real-world applications. It’s a great opportunity to hear first-hand from industry innovators on how their purposeful projects will reshape Hong Kong’s industries and business landscapes. The engaging conference hosted diverse vendors from around the world, demonstrating how the global push towards sustainability continues to prevail. I would like to share a quick overview of some interesting booths we uncovered and a few words of appreciation:
🍗 AEL (International Holdings) Limited’ clever Food Waste Total Recycling Solution is a powerful (but still odor-free!) system that can convert food waste to fossil fuel replacements – such as biodiesel for cars or biogas for electricity.
⚡ Urania Yau (an SLGP classmate!) gave us an introduction to Veolia | Hong Kong & Macau’s various projects, with comprehensive environmental solutions that cover everything from decarbonizing and de-pollution to the saving and regenerating of resources for its municipal and industrial customers in Hong Kong and Macau.
🐠 As biodiversity loss increasingly becomes top of mind in the climate conversation, afterNATURE’s creative living shorelines marry function with form by creating beautiful habitats to recruit important oceanic species and improve marine ecosystems. You can already find them installed around the shorelines of HK!
A big thank you to Kim Yeung at Hong Kong Trade Development Council for providing us with a brilliant guided tour, and all the vendors who took the time to introduce their enlightening projects to us!
We walk away from this experience with much food for thought on what real-world applications of sustainability-forward projects look like, and how we can all do our part in creating businesses that can create profit responsibly 😊
