HKU SLG Students Engaged in Coastal Conservation and Dialogue with Experts at Pak Nai
In an immersive start to the second semester, our SLGP students took the initiative and participated in a field trip to Pak Nai in partnership with The Nature Conservancy. The visit provided a unique opportunity to integrate classroom learning with hands-on conservation work and stakeholder engagement.
Throughout the day, students were engaged in:
- Field-based observations of coastal ecosystems and local oyster breeding practices
- Hands-on conservation work, including the removal of invasive Spartina grass
- Guided discussions on ecological impacts and community relationships
- Policy evaluation sessions focusing on the Northern Metropolis development and its environmental implications
This student-led initiative facilitated meaningful dialogue between participants and conservation experts, bridging academic knowledge with on-the-ground practice. Such experiences are central to our programmeโs commitment to empowering students to become thoughtful and engaged leaders in sustainability, policy, and community development.
