Rural Sustainability Programme – APAC Initiative for Regional Impact (AIRI): Regional Forum II (Sustaining Rural Revitalisation: Innovation and Collaboration)
24th January 2024 (Wednesday)
15:00 - 18:30
Robert B Banks Auditorium, AIT Convention Centre, Bangkok, Thailand

Many governments around the world have now considered rural revitalisation an important strategic policy measure to combat global challenges such as urban-rural divide, climate change, and the degradation of natural resources and cultural heritage. So far, most rural revitalisation efforts have focused on disparate challenges faced by rural communities, including the demographic, socio-economic and environmental ones. A more integrated approach which emphasizes the importance of developing long-term resilience and robustness of local communities in dealing with external shocks and disturbances is key to successful rural revitalisation. This regional forum provides a platform for academics and practitioners to share and discuss how innovation and collaboration can help build robustness and resilience of rural communities. Distinguished keynote speakers from Asia-Pacific, who are experts in the academia, nonprofits, social enterprises, and food conglomerates, will share their insights and perspectives on the topic.

Forest Village Festival 2024
The “Forest Village Festival” is an annual celebration organised towards the year-end to provide fun-filled events for the public to appreciate the revitalisation effort of Mui Tsz Lam and Kop Tong. The festival offers visitors the unique experience of living with nature and culture through various thematic workshops, ecotours, and overnight camping. By featuring the countless natural, social and cultural capitals and assets at the two villages, we hope the public can be inspired and join us in protecting the valuable landscape of our countryside. This year, there will be a two-day carnival, a first sunrise of the year tour and a camping-and-trekking event to explore the rural treasures. The “Forest Village Festival” will be conducted in Chinese and details are only available in Chinese.

CCSG is now a TNFD Forum Member
We are pleased to announce that the Centre for Civil Society and Governance is now a member of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) Forum. With over 1,600 members from various sectors — including corporations, financial institutions, business associations, government bodies, inter-governmental organizations, NGOs and academia — TNFD drives a strong movement toward integrating nature-related issues into businesses’ and capital markets’ decision-making for nature-positive outcomes. We are pleased to be the first university in Hong Kong joining the Forum. Looking into the future, we aim to enhance our engagement with the Forum and other stakeholders as the Centre places more emphasis on spearheading discussions and collaborations on Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Together, we can make a meaningful impact in co-creating a resilient and sustainable future for all.
