APHEN-ICH was launched in September 2018 with the support of the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (ICHCAP) and UNESCO Bangkok Office to establish a cooperative system for the development of higher education in ICH. It aims to foster and strengthen capacity for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage in the Asia-Pacific through collaborative programmes and activities. Currently it involves As of 2022, 19 higher education institutions from Asia Pacific region are affiliated to the Network.
