The programme aims to introduce students to the concept and practice of sustainable communities. In particular, the programme has an emphasis of understanding the ecological and social resources of urban and rural communities in Hong Kong and Asia, and the roles played by different stakeholders and sectors in protecting and revitalizing important assets and capitals for sustainability. It provides students with the basic knowledge and skills in some of the core revitalisation activities, including community engagement, nature and culture conservation, and sustainable agriculture. The programme also provides an introduction to the theories and principles of partnership and collaboration for sustainable management of values and capitals illustrated by real-life local and international case studies.

(a) have gained in the HKDSE Examination Level 2 in five subjects including Chinese Language and English Language; or
(b) have passed five subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese Language and English Language; or
(c) hold equivalent academic qualifications, taking into consideration individual merit

Students, who attained attendance rate of not less than 70% and have the course assessment passed in all four courses in a cluster, will be awarded an academic Certificate in Sustainable Communities (QF Level: 3; QR Registration No.: 18/000784/L3; QR Registration Validity Period: From 11 Sep 2018 – on-going) awarded by the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education.
This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Continuing Education Fund. This course is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 3).
