Since 2018, our Centre has been a member of The International Partnership for Satoyama Initiative (IPSI). IPSI was established in 2010 during the 10th UN Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 10) and is a partnership of organisations created to further the implementation of the Satoyama Initiative, a global effort with the vision to realise societies in harmony with nature through promotion and conservation of “socioecological production landscapes and seascapes” (SEPLS).
The IPSI membership is a recognition of our Centre’s contributions to rural sustainability through the “HSBC Rural Sustainability Programme” (titled “Sustainable Lai Chi Wo Programme” before October 2017) supported by The Hongkong Bank Foundation. The success story of Lai Chi Wo’s revitalisation has been published and shared on the IPSI website. Since 2022, our Centre’s has engaged IPSI as one of the international partners of our “Rural Sustainability Programme – APAC Initiative for Regional Impact” (AIRI) in order to promote rural sustainability at the international level. IPSI has also been contributing to the training and incubation of the AIRI Urban-Rural Sustainability Fellowship which is a one-year change agent incubation programme focuses on rural sustainability issues at the peri-urban context.
