Circular Urban Mushroom Farm

This project intents to a build an urban mushroom farm tackling both rural and urban issues at once.

It employs the circular economy model to produce mushrooms from used coffee ground.

The project focuses on producing locally grown, eco-friendly mushrooms (food) while reducing used coffee ground (food waste) and at the end of the growing cycle, the spent mushroom substrate (organic waste) become mushroom compost returning to local farm as soil amendment and mulching. It is a great way to add organic matter back to the soil.

No waste will be left behind (zero waste) after completing the whole mushroom cultivation process.

With the increasing consumption of coffee, the increasing number of cafes and coffee shops, there will be on going supply of used coffee ground. Without proper use of them, they will end up going to landfills.
